Sabathia Pulls Heist. Nets Another $30 Million

Really. Has greed in athletes reached such a height that players will squeeze every last penny out of their employers just (shaking head in disbelief) because they can? Let me be clear. This is the greatest country in the world and players should get paid their market rate. I don't have any major beef with Sabathia getting the extra $30 mill. At the same time you just have to wonder. $92 million over the next 5 years wasn't enough?? Sabathia (more specifically, his weasely agent) in effect told the Yankees "I want more or I'm leaving". And so, they just rolled over on their backs and gave it to him. I guess when you already have quad-trillion dollar payroll, what's another $30 million. Especially since they're not actually paying his salary. I beleive the mindset is that we'll just pass the cost on to our sniveling sucker fans.

Now if Sabathia was 26 you might be able to make a case that he most likely will be as good a pitcher (maybe even better) six years from now at age 32. At that age, players are at the peak of their careers. But does anyone really believe in the post-steroid era that six years from now Sabathia, at 37, will be the same pitcher? Major League Baseball is littered with aging players who are past their prime and collecting king's ransom-like salaries. Look no further than Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, two players who are clearly in decline.

By the way, if you take your car to a Yankee game, it will cost you $35 to park. And if you should decide to buy a couple of hot dogs with fries and a coke, that will cost you another $40. Assuming you went by yourself. If you took you kids as well, you could be expected to pay another hundred or two on food and other concessions.

It boggles the mind.
